    My food/restaurant blog
I'm still not posting anything of substance here but I have recently rebirthed (what a mess) my food and restaurant blog at http://eatininlincoln.blogspot.com. I still try to focus on Lincoln and Omaha restaurants but I think things will skew more towards airport food and "not Lincoln" restaurants since I'm not in Lincoln much.

I would like to be the first to review the Benson Bazooka Bakeshop when it opens.

Because it's Christmas time, one more last post...
So you all can hear this awesome rendition of "O Holy Night." It's indescribably awful but I love it so much. I've listened to it for about four years now every Xmas time and it always makes me get in the spirit no matter what.

...the people that you knew at Elaine's
I just rediscovered the gold mine of treasures Billy Joel bestowed upon us when my parents still bought LPs. I'll let you know how it went when I get back from Arkansas.

    My guy
He certainly won't win the nomination but I've decided Senator Dodd is the candidate for me.

What CDs, records or tapes do you listen to when you just need to reframe yourself? My top 3 are like this:

London Calling always kicks my ass in some way I need my ass kicked even when I don't know it.

Icky Mettle and Bee Thousand both set me free when I feel stagnant.

Let It Bleed and Hunky Dory always make me feel human when I need to be.

Question for Lincoln ppl re: bikes
Where's a good place to buy a used bike? I'm not talking a vintage Schwinn or anything like that but a mountain bike that's a few years old that has been refitted.

    Attn Gardeners
Briefly decloaking to give away some stuff. I just got 30 seeds of each of the heirloom tomato varieties listed here and there's no way I'm going to be able to plant them all in my limited inside boxes. If you want some, let me know.

    Today
There are these rumors on the, uh, internets, that today, Jan. 22, is supposed to be the most depressing day of the year. I'm not sure why since the least sunny day of the year was a month ago and most people have their own personally depressing days that stem from events, not calendars. I can usually pinpoint my depression down to periods or hours within days. Last night was not good, for example.
    How was today? )

    Shopping Tip
The Target store brand ginger beer is way too sweet and therefore unsuitable for the making of Moscow Mules.

And a question: When did the 48th & R Target get booze back? They had liquor, beer and wine there back around 2000 but got rid of it after a year but Friday afternoon when I went in there for the first time in a couple months they had a whole aisle of wine including a bunch of Archer Farms boxed wine.

    Excuse Me, AGAG?
I need to slip into my Serious Suit and tie on my Pedantic Tie for a few minutes here as I digest one of the more stunningly stupid statements I've heard yet from Attorney General Abu Gonzalez. In Senate hearings on warrantless wiretapping this past week there was this exchange between Gonzalez and Republican senator from PA, Arlen Specter.
AG: “There is no expressed grant of habeas in the Constitution; there’s a prohibition against taking it away."

Arlen Specter: “Wait a minute. The Constitution says you can’t take it away except in case of rebellion or invasion. Doesn’t that mean you have the right of habeas corpus unless there’s a rebellion or invasion?”

AG: “The Constitution doesn’t say every individual in the United States or citizen is hereby granted or assured the right of habeas corpus. It doesn’t say that. It simply says the right shall not be suspended” except in cases of rebellion or invasion.”

AS: “You may be treading on your interdiction of violating common sense."

There's a pattern of members of the current administration drawing bizarre conclusions based on their fantastical interpretations of the Constitution, like the idea that the Constitution doesn't say the President isn't the King therefore he is, but this is the most openly violative of common sense as Arlen Specter said. Even if you ignore the fact that habeas corpus was created by the Magna Carta in 1215 by a bunch of rich guys fed up with another king and most of the Magna Carta was incorporated into our Constitution by the founders because they thought it was a good idea almost 600 years later, the Constitution confers many rights by saying what the government cannot do.

And before I go to bed
Krin's way too-long quiz from yesterday afternoon. I'm a 2w1 which is pretty dead on. A helper who wants to improve and reform. How far has that gotten anybody?

    More on 2w1 )
